Mother Mary Elma Moore peacefully transitioned from this earthly life into immortality on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at the age of 103. She was born March 15, 1919, in Sweet Water, Alabama, the daughter of the late Alberta Johnson and Nathan Jackson. She was raised by her grandparents, Caroline and Dave Johnson of Sweet Water, Alabama. She received her education at Exmoor Elementary School and St. Wisdom School.
She gave her life to Christ at an early age, becoming a Member of the Church of God Pentecostal in 1948 where she was baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus and filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost. She served on the Mother’s Board and the Usher Board and was a faithful Choir Member and Prayer Band Leader. She remained a faithful member until her health failed. Mother Moore’s favorite phrase was “You’ve got to love everybody,” her favorite scripture was John 14:14, and her favorite song was, “By and By.”
Mother Mary Elma Moore was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Deacon Putten Moore on October 14, 1934. They enjoyed a beautiful and long marriage until God called him home after 67 years on March 3, 2002. To their union, 16 children were born, nine boys and seven girls.
Mother Mary Elma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Putten Moore, four sons, Eddie C, George Perry, Johnny, and Lewis Moore, one daughter, Eunice and her one brother, Thomas Johnson. She leaves to cherish her sweet memories six daughters, Mary (Leonard) Lockett of Kalamazoo, Michigan, devoted daughter, Annie Poellnitz of Dixons Mills, Alabama, Pat “Elma Graye” (Albert) Maye, Etta (Dubois) Mcintosh, both of Portage, Michigan, Brenda Jones, Nolensville, Tennessee, and Belinda (Cornelius) Bryant Montgomery, Alabama.
Four sons, Thomas (Maureen) Moore, Luther Moore both of Kalamazoo, Michigan, William (Doris) Moore, Saginaw Michigan, Dennis (Terri) Moore of Covington, Georgia, and Elvis (Tracey) Moore of Spring Hill, Tennessee. Forty-two grandchildren, eighty-one great grandchildren, forty-two great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
