Lonesore “Lonnie” Chaney), 70, of Sweetwater, Alabama passed away after a long battle
with Cancer on July 17, 2025. He was born to the Union of Rev. James Burl Chaney Sr., and
Mazie B (Rodgers) Chaney on May 1, 1955. He was a sibling to four Brothers and one Sister.
He joined the Rock Babylon Baptist Church at an early age. He attended Marengo High
School in Dixon Mill Al. There he played basketball and football; some would say that he
was the best running back they had seen. Many heard about his performance on the
football field and came near and far to watch him play. He was a graduate of Class of 1973.
After graduation he moved to Detroit, Michigan. He worked for Chrysler Corporation, and
later transferred to the Twinsburg, Ohio Plant where he worked until retirement. While living
and working in Ohio, He met and married Ava Cole. During this union they had a daughter
named Avoni Chaney.
Lonnie enjoyed modeling, having good conversations, and traveling. The most dynamic
thing about him was his infectious smile and his huge heart. Lonnie loved talking about the
Lord and enjoyed his tranquility. He loved traveling and visiting family and friends often.
Lonesore was preceded in death by his wife (Ava Cole Chaney), Father (Rev James Burl
Chaney Sr.), his mother (Mazie Rodgers Chaney) two Brothers (James Burl Chaney Jr.), and
(Carl Lee Chaney).
The memories of Lonnie will be cherished by his daughters Avoni Chaney, Sakina Murry, and
son Vincent Tucker. Granddaughters Sahavannah Greer, Willow Murry, Great grandson Noah
Nudd. His brothers Theodore Roosevelt (Ted), his wife Teresa Chaney, Oliver and wife
Deborah Chaney, and sister Patricia Jowers. And a host of nieces and nephews, relatives, and
friends.
The Lord is so close to all whose hearts are crushed by pain, and He is
