During our assembly today, we mourn the memory of Donald Evans who was born December 15, 1945, to the late Elisha and Emma Marshall Evans in Marengo County, Alabama. Also, we are here to celebrate his deliverance into eternal life on November 18, 2021.
At an early age, Donald accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a faithful member of Jones Chapel C.M.E. Church in Dixons Mills, Alabama. Donald was educated in the Marengo County Public School system. He was a graduate of Marengo High School in Dixons Mills, Alabama.
For many years he was a loyal employee for both MacMillian Blodel in Pine Hill, Alabama and Georgia Pacific in Pennington, Alabama. In 1964, the selected military draft was rampant. After high school, Donald joined the United States Army. Throughout his tour of active duty, from October 29, 1964 to October 28, 1966, he was stationed in Italy. Donald was a proud and honorable soldier. After his active-duty tour, he was eligible to be a part-time soldier and was deployed to serve with honor and distinction once more during Operations Desert Storm/Desert Shield from November 21, 1990 through February 3, 1991.
On June 11, 1967, true love joined him together in Holy Matrimony with Vivian Butler as his beloved wife. God blessed them to a long-lasting union that would expand their family by four and continue for more than 54 years.
He was a man of simplicity, and he had a heart filled with love for God and family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; a loving son, brother, and uncle; and a great friend who always gave selflessly when needed.
Preceding him in death is Elisha and Emma Marshall Evans, his parents; Arthur and Mary Jowers Butler, his parents-by-law; Larry James Evans, his brother and Donald Evans, II, his loving son.
