Ms. Barbara Ree “Honey” Lewis Hosea was born on March 20, 1943 to the late Mrs. Lucille Lewis and Mr. Harvey Lewis in Dixons Mills, Alabama. On Thursday, November 5, 2020, she departed this life. Barbara was educated in the Marengo County School system in Dixon Mills, Alabama and graduated from Marengo High School. She attended Hobson State Technical College in Thomasville, Alabama where she received her formal training and graduated with her Certification for Home Health Aide. Her career spanned for over 27 years. In 2019, she retired from The Washington County Health Department, a Division of Alabama Department of Public Health. She would always say, “this was her calling and purpose in life!” Barbara joined the church at an early age and served faith - fully as a member of the Jones Chapel C.M.E. Church in Dixon Mills, Alabama. As a member, she served as an Usher and as a Missionary with the Women’s Missionary Society. It brought so much joy to her heart knowing that she was serving the Lord and members of the church. There will always be the special memories that each of us will hold close within our hearts regarding our personal re - lationships with her. She was a wonderful and loyal mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. Whether it was travel - ing, working on small projects around the house with her son, Michael Paul, discussing recipes with Cookie and Sydney, go - ing to her doctor appointments or visits with Cousin Ree; we all have a story of how she impacted our lives. And for all of us, we will miss her generosity with the many different cards she sent during the year every year. Her hobbies included reading her bible, traveling, sewing, cooking and gardening, especially her flowers. Barbara was predeceased by her mother, Lucille Lewis; her father, Harvey Lewis; brother, L.V. Lewis; sisters, Lois Allen, Armziel “Maye” Lewis Pritchett and Brenda “Dean” Quinn. Barbara leaves to cherish, her children, Lovella Gillum of Fresno, CA, Deric Hosea of Birmingham, AL Charlotte Hosea of Montgomery, AL, Harvey “Cookie” Collins of Charlotte, NC, Quewanncoii “Buckey” Hosea of Birmingham, AL and Michael “Paul” Hosea of Washington, DC; two aunts, Nell Gunn of Phila - delphia, PA and Elma Moore of Dixons Mills, AL; four brothers, Essie “Crook” Lewis of Bronx, NY, William “Stut” Lewis of Bir - mingham AL, Lorenzo “Whip” Lewis and Michael “Nut” Lewis, both of Dixons Mills, AL; two sisters, Fannie “Sallye” Bacote and Annie “Tot” Collins, both of Fayetteville, NC. Also, she leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
